Unbleached Cotton/Poly?

There's a Project Runway joke in there somewhere. I just know it!

PMS Letter: To the Mayor of Nashville, TN

In her book, Kiss My Tiara, Susan Jane Gilman writes that women should use all of the anger, frustration, and bitchiness that comes with PMS and write to our politicians, people in Congress, representatives, and the president! In the first of a monthly series, here is my letter to the mayor:

Dear Sir:

I’d like to start off by saying that I didn’t vote for you. I don’t remember why exactly (maybe I was sick that day?), but I’m glad the other guy didn’t win.

I’d like to continue by saying that despite what the financial analysts are saying on television, our pockets are empty and we working class citizens are seriously hurting! Yes, Virginia, there is a recession.

After a few years of fighting in the Middle East, everyone thought that ethanol would save us from our dependence on foreign oil. (OMG! Gas from corn! Whodathunkit?) But as more farmers choose to sell larger chunks of their crops to be made into ethanol, food prices began to rise along with gasoline prices. We, the people, were totally screwed.

So, what about “going green” and using mass transit? Problem: MTA cuts back its
routes, and the Music City Star goes only two ways – east and west. If you live
in any of the other directions on the compass, sucks to be you.

First of all, thousands of people depend on MTA as their only means of transportation. To cut back on service when, now more than ever, people can’t afford to have a car, is not only ridiculous but extremely elitist. Secondly, the middle Tennessee area is full of train tracks. It simply makes no sense that none of these tracks are being used for commuter trains.

We all know that these changes cost money. However, in the long run I believe it would more than pay for itself: Middle- and upper-middle class citizens would be happy to use public transportation in order for the chance to decrease their carbon footprint. And the working class, who may not have any choice but to use public transportation would greatly appreciate the more options an expended system could offer.

With the rising costs of food and fuel, many people are going without the necessities. (Personally, I’ve had to decide on whether I should buy medicine or fuel up my tank to go to work.) Things are getting painful for the working-class, and I would like to be assured of your understanding and commitment to a solution on this matter.

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.

Sincerely, &c.

If you're going to write a PMS letter, it's probably best to send it right away before your hormone levels go down and you start to regret what you wrote...

Maybe. I'll post the response when/if I receive one.

Random Ramblings: Chillin' w/ Granny Edition

~ Don't get me wrong, y'all: I love my Granny and would do anything for her...But I just had to light some scented candles cuz she's got this place LIT UP! What has she been eating?!

~ I've been pleasantly surpised by my experience over at Cassy Fiano's blog. We were actually having a discussion and not a shouting match. Even though I don't agree with her and she doesn't agree with me, I still feel like I was welcome, and that's saying ALOT! But let's not kid ourselves: Nobody's going on anybody's blogroll anytime soon! ;-)

Wait for it....waaaiiit for it.....

"Palin: Iraq war 'a task that is from God'"

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."

In an address last June, the Republican vice presidential candidate also urged ministry students to pray for a plan to build a $30 billion natural gas pipeline in the state, calling it "God's will."
I'll give it a week. If nothing nothing happens by then...well.

Advice Needed, PLEASE!!!

There's this guy I see around town that's approached me 3 times in the last month or so. I don't want anything to do with him.

The first time he approached me was at the car wash. When I walked by him to get something from the vending machine, he asked me if I was Jamaican. (Maybe because of my dreds?) I said, "No, why?" Then he asked me if I was married. I said, "No, and I'm not looking. Thanks." He asked me for my name, but I just waved and walked away.

The next time I saw him was when I had to leave work early last week because my migraine was killing me. On the way to my apartment, I stopped to pick up the mail. As I was driving off, a guy in an SUV pulled up beside me and honked his horn. I rolled down my window a little bit, and he motioned for me to "come here". Like hell. Then he asked me for my name. I said, "Look. I'm really in a lot of pain right now, so unless this is important, I've got to get going." He said, "Okay. give me your phone number and I'll call you later." Without saying anything more, I just drove off. And when I was sure he wasn't following me, I went home.

The last time I saw him was last night. I was leaving a store. And he was walking up to me, trying to get my attention. I ignored him, and got into my car. Then the dude starts KNOCKING ON MY PASSENGER WINDOW! I start the car and he didn't start walking away until I pulled away from the parking space. After I made sure I wasn't being followed, I went home.

I have read way too many news reports about women who just wanted to be left alone, but ended up dead or injured because they dared to say no to some jerk on the street. I'm scared that if I see this guy again (hopefully, three times the charm and I won't ever have to deal with him anymore), he's going to get violent if I just come right out with it. I want to tell him, "I've turned you down three times already. Please respect that. I just don't want anything to do with you." But what if he's carrying any weapons or decides to follow me home?

I do have some pepper spray, but there's a little problem: As you may already know, I work at a facility for juvenile offenders. Any person or vehicle on State property may be subject to a search. I can't keep the pepper spray on me (wouldn't want our little "angels" to get ahold of it) and I can't keep it in the car. If there's a search (and they do have random searchs) I could written up, or worse, fired.

If you have any advice, please, PLEASE help me out!
